Mr. Mikey “Pops” Cooley

Mr. Mikey “Pops” Cooley, 87, a resident of Waynesboro, MS, passed from this life on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born in Wayne County on Friday, March 7, 1930, to Eva Marie Collins Cooley and James Garfield Cooley.
After the death of his mother he was brought up by his aunt, Earnies Cooley and uncle, Melvin Cooley.
He was retired as a self-employed entrepreneur and was a mason. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and being in the great outdoors.
Mr. Cooley is preceded in death by his parents, Eva Marie Cooley and James Garfield Cooley; special aunt, Earnies Cooley; special uncle, Melvin Cooley; brother, Pat Cooley; two sisters, Edith Waltman, Betty Cook Harmon.
He was survived by a wonderful family and was a father figure to his non-paternal children; Larry Blair (Monica), Tiffany Blair both of Waynesboro, Donyae McHenry (Dr. Jack) of Quitman; sister, Sue Bettinger of Quitman; two nephews, Michael Hall Cook (Connie) of Jasper, AL, David A. Cook (Tina) of Daphne, AL; five children that he loved as if they were his own grandchildren, Ricco Jordan, Bailey Edison (Ben), Chancey Smith, Starren Jones, Hope Hoze; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Cooley will be held from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2017, from the Zion's Rest Cemetery in Eucutta with Rev. Curtis Cain officiating. Interment will be in Zion's Rest Cemetery in Eucutta.
