Melvin “Howard” Donald

Funeral services for Mr. Howard Donald will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Donald, 87, of Meridian, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Specialty Hospital of Meridian.

Mr. Donald served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, serving from 1951-55. He was also in the Navy Reserves. After serving in the Navy he attended, Mississippi State University and The University of Mississippi where became a pharmacist. He was the owner Key Rexall Drug store in Broadmoor Mart for over 14 years. After his retirement he worked in the family timber business. He was a member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church in Meridian from 1960 until his death; he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted.

He is survived by his children, Travis (Nancy) Donald, Sabrina (Johnny) Cook, and Jonathan (Terry) Donald; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way. One sister, Sherry (Tom) Storey as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime friend and loving companion, Lennie Reed.

Mr. Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jane Reeves Donald, and his parents, Melvin Travis and Gladys Massey Donald. One sister, JoLynn Haney, and one brother, Dudley Carrol Donald.
